Hunger Games Reaping Friday

It's time for the annual reaping. Twelve tributes will be chosen to compete in the Hunger Games on Friday, November 20. The last tribute standing will win movie tickets to any movie of their choice. Put your name in the jar in the library and come to the courtyard on Friday at noon!

Reading Survey Results

The results from the Middle Learning Reading Survey are in! You can see them in this infographic that was made with Piktochart. The good news is that 75% of students said reading is important. The surprising news is that the majority of students would rather read a paper book than an eBook. And it's no surprise at all that the number one reason students don't read more is "too much homework." Thank you to ML students Emily, Mary, Simone, and Libby for your hard work on this project.

Freedom to Read

This year the library is offering new middle learning electives. This is the Freedom to Read class that just finished their quarter-long class. These girls did amazing work in the library—they created a scavenger hunt for 5th graders, a Dot Day bulletin board for the EL library, author signs for our author visits, book displays, and they also surveyed ML students about their reading habits. (Look for their survey results soon on this blog soon.) Last week they took library books to the ML commons and had book checkout at lunch. They were a fabulous group to work with and I will miss them in the library.

Halloween Poetry Reading

This year the fall UL poetry reading will have a Halloween theme. All students and faculty are invited to come enjoy some nutella and croissants and some creepy poems. Feel free to come listen or to read a poem. This poetry reading is sponsored by the Creative Writing Club and will take place on Friday, Oct. 23 at 8:30 a.m. in the library.

Time to Be Sorted!

September 1st is the first day of school at Hogwarts, and in honor of this occasion you have the opportunity to be sorted into a Galloway House. Are you a Mathisdor, a Crarypuff, a Jemsbyrin, or a Redmondclaw?

Take the quiz to find out...then come to the library on Tuesday, Sept. 1 and put your name in your house jar. At town meeting we will draw names to see who are chosen as prefects from each house (and prefects get a prize!)

Please share this link on social media so all UL students see it!

Summer Checkout

Returning Galloway students can check out books for the summer. Just stop by the library this week or even next week. ML and UL students can take up to 25 books and EL students can choose up to 10 books. And if you prefer audio or eBooks, remember to try out Follett Shelf or OverDrive. Get the information you need to use these services here: http://gallowaylibrary.weebly.com/ebooks-and-audiobooks.html

Summer Reading

The school year is almost over and we are busy planning for summer reading. Our goal is to encourage students and staff to read for fun this summer! Students in 4th-12th grades have some required reading, so check out our website and find out what needs to be read. Middle and Upper Learning students have all been signing up for summer book clubs and that information is on the website as well. UL students taking AP courses next year should also be sure to check the website for information. Summer Reading Website Link
