All Night Read In

The 6th annual ML All Night Read In will be held on March 18-19. Galloway students in 6th-8th grades are invited to spend the night in the library doing a lot of reading plus many other fun activities. If you love to read, we guarantee you will have a good time. Registration begins on Friday, Feb. 26 at 8:45 in the ML commons and continues in the library until we are full. See Ms. Kochel if you need any further information. Many Galloway students are fans of Neal Shusterman's Unwind book series. The final installment, Undivided, was released yesterday. Our biggest superfan had it read by 6 a.m. I Tweeted this out and it was retweeted by Neal Shusterman himself. The library has 2 print copies of the book and can put it on library Kindles as well. Come by if you want to read Undivided.

You have devices, we have eBooks!

We are thrilled to announce our new collection of eBooks and audiobooks. Galloway students may now borrow free downloadable audiobooks and e-books for an e-reader, mobile device, or computer with our OverDrive library. Use our website or download the OverDrive mobile app from any app store. We are part of a consortium of independent scools (MISBO) and this collection includes over 1,000 titles. Add The Galloway School as your library, and while you're at it, add your public library's OverDrive collection too!

You may choose to create your own OverDrive account and an Adobe ePub account. However, you may bypass these options and still use the system by signing in with your Galloway network ID. We understand that there may be some confusion with the initial setup. If you have questions, please contact Middle/Upper Learning librarian Marcia Kochel.  Early Learning students do not have network IDs and should contact librarian Amy Zupancic for login instructions.

Readbox

Here's our new Readbox—created by Lakota and Cameron, our UL library aides. So many movies of YA books are coming out soon. We are pretty excited for the Nov. 22 premiere of Catching Fire. There will be a reaping in the UL courtyard on Nov. 21 for 7th-12th graders. Put your name in the bowl if you think you can survive the Quarter Quell!

New Releases

Lots of new books are being released in October and we are getting them in as they are published. We already have House of Hades by Rick Riordan, Unsouled by Neal Shusterman, The Grimm Conclusion by Adam Gidwitz, and The Eye of Minds by James Dashner. We are also buying them for our Kindles, so come check them out!

Wonder

All of middle learning has been reading Wonder by R.J. Palacio this summer. Now it's time to talk about Auggie, Jack Will, Summer, Julian, Via and all the other characters. How were they kind to each other? When were they not as good of friends as they should have been? What can we learn from how Beecher Prep welcomed Auggie to school? We are hoping this is the beginning of a year-long conversation about how we can be a more caring community.

Awesome Shirt of the Day

A great t-shirt for fans of The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. (Greta says she got it at Barnes and Noble.) Upper learning students—if you haven't read this book you really should. It's amazing.

Taylor Swift Webcast

Students from 5th-8th graders gathered last Friday to watch a Scholastic webcast from Taylor Swift. She talked about reading and how storytelling is an important part of her songwriting process. See the webcast here. 

Student Reading Blogs

Galloway 9th graders are once again contributing book reviews to the ORBlog (at Galloway ORB=Outside Reading Book). Take at look at their opinions—both positive and negative—about what they have been reading. The link to this blog is always on this webpage under Books & Reading or you can go to the blog and subscribe to e-mail updates. The Galloway 7th graders have started a new book blog as well called 7th Grade Year in Books. There will be a new blog posting on this blog every day of the school year. CHERUB Series Arrives from England

Thanks to Mr. Dyer, the Galloway Library now has all the books in the CHERUB series. These are spy books that fans of the Alex Rider books are also reading. Only 4 of them have been published in the United States but there are 12 in the series in England. Mr. Dyer went home to England in September and bought us the complete set. Thanks Mr. Dyer!
